Welcome to FiftyForward Knowles!

accredited by the National Institute of Senior Centers

The original center of Senior Citizens, Inc. (now FiftyForward) was the Knowles Center. (From that single entity, 52 years later, the agency operates seven centers in Middle Tennessee.)

In 2002-03, through a special property arrangement with Metro Nashville and the Tennessee State Fair board, our agency constructed and moved into a beautiful new building on the Fairgrounds: the Patricia Hart Building.  With administrative and program headquarters occupying the second floor, FiftyForward Knowles uses its ground floor space for classes and activities, occasional corporate meetings/ events and rentals.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and on occasional evenings, the center bustles with a variety of programs and classes. Among the most popular are computer lessons, SilverSneakers® Fitness Program, knitting and crocheting and a current events discussion group. Dancing is also a hit at Knowles, home of the Friday Night Dance. Line, social dance and ballroom dancing classes are well attended.

Through a grant from the St. Thomas Health Services, the Latino Outreach program provides activities and services for those (especially older adults) who do not speak English.  Classes such as ESL (English as a Second Language) are supplemented by special-interest classes like sewing and floral arranging. Our coordinator also provides interpretive services as needed for FiftyForward Living at Home clients. For center members interested in learning to speak Spanish, Knowles offers Spanish for Daily Living and Spanish Grammar and Conversation.

To learn more about the offerings at FiftyForward Knowles, call the center or send your e-mail address to hdavis@fiftyforward.org to receive weekly updates of events and programs. The monthly schedule is also printed in Forward Focus, available at the center and at area public libraries.
